Is It El Nino Or La Nina 2024. The warm phase of the pacific ocean’s temperature cycle, known as el niño, is now winding down and is poised to move into its counterphase, la niña. After a strong el nino, like the world saw in late 2023 and early 2024, conditions tend to swing fairly quickly to la nina.
The pattern shifts back and forth. The tropical pacific is still in neutral, but nature continues giving us signs that la niña is on the way, and our la niña.
